Apparently, the NBA’s “snitch hotline” is exploding.
As part of a 113-page memo, the NBA established an anonymous phone line for players to report to their teammates who they suspect are violating the rules.
Several tips have already been sent to the hotline, according to The Athletic, to report possible protocol violations. The NBA is trying to maintain a bubble atmosphere in Orlando, Florida to resume its season later this month.
Some players have already received warnings from the league for their violations, which reportedly stem from social estrangement and mask protocol.
The tips have already upset some in the league. Clippers guard Lou Williams posted a rat emoji on Twitter. In an interview with the Bleacher Report, Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie, who is waiting for a restart after testing positive for coronavirus, announced, “To all my fellow NBA players, please do not call the Snitch hotline.”
Two players, Rockets forward Bruno Caboclo and Kings Richaun Holmes center, have already broken the league’s security protocols and have to restart the quarantine process.
Caboclo was reportedly unaware that he was unable to leave his room during the initial quarantine period upon arrival at the bubble. Holmes “briefly and accidentally” crossed the campus lines to pick up the food delivery, he announced on Twitter Monday.
If players don’t follow bubble safety protocols, the punishment consists of a warning, a suspension, and a campus ban.
