Superstar of Utah Jazz Donovan Mitchell shifts his focus from the NBA playoffs to the horrific shooting of unarmed black man Jacob Blake in Kenosha, WI … and said this is exactly why players spoke out about social injustice.
After all, Blake was driving back to his car after he broke up a fight between two women … when a white officer hit him and shot him in the back 7 times when Blake’s kids saw from inside the car.
Blake was flown to a nearby hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
Mitchell is one of many sports figures talking to her about the incident … and said, “IT CRAZY I DONT HAVE EVERY WORDS, BUT WTF MAN! THAT’S WHY WE FEEL FREE !!!!”
FYI – Mitchell is currently wearing “Say Her Name” on the back of his jersey during the NBA startup in honor of Breonna Taylor, who was shot and killed by three cops who conducted a no-knock search in March.
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Amir Garrett also talks about the shooting, and said … “They placed 7 rounds in Jacob Blake for his kids. I saw the video, you tell me he can not be tazed? He needs to be shot immediately?”
“Smh who apparently lives black doesn’t matter yet. I’m confused from the morning.”
KC Chiefs star Tyrant Mathieu tweeted, “Damn they shot that man 7 times …. why can’t 3 officials suppress one man? I really need answers, if you respond to everything ……”
New Orleans Saints is running back Alvin Kamara added … “Attempted murder .. I pray he survives.”
Hall of Famer Ray Allen also utters, saying, “No one deserves to be treated this way. Can we all agree on this? Where is our human dignity! What happened to” protect and serve. “
“It looks more like harassment and shooting!”
The Milwaukee Bucks – who normally play 45 minutes of Kenosha – issued a statement on the incident, saying, “We firmly oppose recurring problems of excessive use of force and immediate escalation among the black community.”
“Our organization will continue to stand up for all black lives because we demand accountability and systemic change on behalf of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Sylville Smith, Ernest Lacy, Dontre Hamiltion, Tony Robinson, Joel Acevedo and countless other victims.”
“We will work to introduce policy change so that these incidents no longer exist.”
