Naya Rivera will appear in ‘Sugar Rush’; Netflix dedicates episode to deceased actress – Deadline


EXCLUSIVE: In what is believed to be her last television appearance, Naya Rivera will appear in a season 3 episode of the Netflix baking competition reality series. Sugar rush, which will launch on Friday.

In February, a few weeks before all production stopped, the Joy student filmed an appearance as a guest judge in Sugar rush in Los Angeles, sitting next to the host of the show Hunter March and professional cooking judges Candace Nelson and Adriano Zumbo. It was the last thing Rivera shot before the closure of the Hollywood production related to the coronavirus, now in its fifth month.

Netflix announced on June 24 a release date on July 31 for the new season of Sugar rush, branded Extra sweet. A couple of weeks later, Rivera disappeared while swimming with her son in Lake Piru, north of Los Angeles. Her body was recovered on July 13 and rested on July 24. She was 33 years old.

After Rivera’s death, Netflix faced a dilemma about what to do with her footage. After careful consideration in consultation with Rivera’s manager Gladys González, who has been working closely with the actress’s family after Rivera’s death, the decision was made to move forward and launch the episode as planned.

The episode is dedicated to Rivera, with an on-screen note honoring the actress who appears before the opening credits.
