NASCAR seeks solution to driver overheating

The last few nights it was hard for Mike Harmon to “get a good rest.”

Since early Sunday, he and his Xfinity Series team have been visiting to find her truck and trailer which were stolen from a Cracker Barrel parking lot in Kingsland, Georgia.

Inside the trailer sat one of the six race cars, a pit box, team radios and tools. According to a police report, the estimated cost of stealing goods was $ 400,000.

“It’s hard enough to get out of Daytona and be at Dover on Friday morning,” Harmon told NBC Sports on Wednesday, not long after the award. for info on stealing goods was increased to $ 10,000. ‘You also had it in your head,‘ Where is my game? Will they find it? What kind of shape will it be? ‘You can’t get a good rest because you can’t get your mind off of it. It’s a big, big, big, obstacle. But you can not survive in this business by not being strong. But we are strong enough to do it and we will do it. It’s hard enough without unnecessary things like this happening. ”

The race car that sat in the stolen trailer was the No. 47 Chevrolet Kyle Weatherman rode to a 17th place finish Saturday on the Daytona road race. Although it was a specific car course, Harmon said it’s our best parts that we change every week. It’s carburetor, shocks, sway bar, something like that. The seat for the driver. ”

Three days after the theft, Harmon said there were “not very many” leads in the search, outside security cameras made by the Cracker Barrel that showed the pickup truck and trailer were taken.

“I do a little better every day, but I don’t know how to describe it. It’s a different feeling than I ever had,” Harmon said. “So many people are looking for it, (but) nothing has really come up yet.”

Making it easier for Harmon’s team to compete in this weekend’s Dover doubleheader weekend are its other NASCAR competitors.

Harmon said it was ‘heartwarming’ to receive help from team owners Rick Ware and Johnny Davis and Josh Reaume. Ware provided a truck and hauler. Davis has opted for tires in tires and gas blades, while Reaume has contributed a fuel cell and driver.

“It really helps, because we would all do the same thing for each other,” Harmon said. “I’m sure we’m not ready yet, but there are a few to name a few.”

After the Dover weekend, the team will have to travel back south to Daytona for the August 28 race at the Daytona Oval.

What precautions will Harmon take if he now drives between races?

“Well, I’ll make sure we have a GPS locator, that’s for sure,” Harmon said. ‘I was actually not with her when it was stolen. I stayed back in Daytona and the next morning I was with the boys. I told her I did not want her to sleep because you know how dangerous that is. … I wish we did it differently, but we did not. ‘

Harmon does not believe the culprits knew what they were up to when they left.

When asked if he could have seen her face when she opened the trailer, Harmon laughed.

“Well, I wish I had seen them,” Harmon said. ‘I’m pretty sure my hands would be pretty clapped now. That’s for sure. ‘
