NASA astronauts will vote in the 2020 presidential election from space

His vote will be out of this world.

NASA astronaut Kate Rubins plans to vote for the 2020 presidential election on the International Space Station – more than 200 miles above the Earth’s surface, according to the Associated Press.

“I think it’s really important for everyone to vote,” Rubins said.

“If we can do it from space, I believe people can do it from the ground as well.”

Rubins, who is currently stationed in Russia’s Star City, is preparing for his space trip in October, along with two other astronauts, and will complete a six-month voyage to the ISS.

She says it doesn’t stop her from exercising her right to vote on something as small as Earth’s orbit.

“Participating in our democracy is crucial,” he said. “We consider it an honor to be able to vote from space.”

Most astronauts in the United States live in Houston, where election law allows astronauts to vote while swimming among the stars.

The purpose of his vote will be to securely vote on a mission using a related electronic ballot, which will then be sent to the county clerk.

Back in 2016, both Rubins and Shane Kimbro cast their votes from space.

During his six-month tour on the ISS, Rubins will celebrate the 20th anniversary of a continuous human presence on the space station, as well as welcome another Space X group, which is due to arrive in late October.
