Narineh Awakiyan: A missing California woman on a day trip was found dead in the mountains, police said.

Grendel resident Narineh Avakiyan, 37, was found near the Mount Wa Water Terminal Trail, the Glendale Police Department said in a news release.

Police said a preliminary investigation found indications that the accident was not involved, but an investigation into his death is ongoing.

Family members first contacted police on March 8, and informed officers that Avakian had left his home around noon the day before and said he was going on a one-day hiking trip, according to an earlier report from police Said.

Police did not say where she had gone, police said.

“According to the family, it is common for Narienh to go on trips with groups and alone – although recently she has been alone,” the publication said.

On Thursday, Avakins’ parked vehicle was in the Bukhcorn Day Use Area, next to the Angeles Crest Highway, police said. The area was badly affected by the recent snowfall, police said.

After her vehicle was found, search and rescue teams from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were deployed, but severe weather conditions – including about a foot of snow – put an end to the search for several hours.

Glendale police said search and rescue teams from 17 different counties helped in the search for Avakian.
