Musk confirms Tesla Nevada factory was the target of ‘serious’ cyber attacks

Elon Musk said Thursday that the Tesla Inc plant in Nevada was the target of a “serious” cyber-security attack, confirming a media report claiming that a company employee of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) helped thwart the attack.

News website Teslarati said the electric car maker was the unnamed company in a statement issued Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Justice over the arrest of a Russian national, in connection with a planned attack on an unidentified company.

“This was a serious attack,” Musk said in a tweet, in response to the Teslarati article.

The Justice Department said Egor Igorevich Kriuchkov, 27, a Russian national, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to intentionally damage a protected computer by trying to recruit a staff member to enter malware into a system.
