Multiple recent Lucas Co. COVID-19 infections due to quarantine disruption

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – There were more than 150 new COVID cases reported in Lucas County over the weekend with 500 new cases since July 1.

Toledo County Health Commissioner Lucas Eric Zgodzinski says some of those cases have been caused by people who disregard security measures.

“For the past two weeks, we have had some problems with people who knew they were sick or were exposed to a family member leaving and not adhering to quarantine guidelines.”

It is actions like this, Zgodzinski says they are inexcusably driving our COVID cases. “I want to make sure that people understand that when we call and say that it needs to be quarantined, it must be isolated that it stays there and does what is asked of it during those 14 days.”

The decision to move Lucas County to the red warning zone is based on per capita cases. Zgodzinski says we are close to that. “I will say that we are trending in the number of cases. Thank God we are not seeing any real fatality. If I was just guessing, we will probably get closer to red sometime in the next two weeks. ”
