John Schneider and Pete Carroll have earned a reputation for winning a lot of talent. In the past, the Seattle Seahawks traded for Percy Harvin, Jimmy Graham, and signed risky free agents like Josh Gordon. The Seahawks recently made another major commercial investment for the safety of the New York Jets, Jamal Adams. This was a successful trade that sent the following two Seahawks first-round picks, a third-round robber and safety safety Bradley McDougald to the Jets in exchange for Adams and the future fourth-round robber. It goes without saying that Seattle is relying on this exchange to raise its defense and give the team another shot at a Super Bowl.
After Adams was recruited from LSU in 2017, it didn’t take long for him to rise to the elite security ranks in the NFL. In his three short seasons, he was a team captain twice, made the Pro Bowl twice, and was also named for All Pro Second Team and First Team honors in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Adams has been incredibly lined up on almost every defensive point and coverage for the Jets.
In my last movie theater, I took a deep look at his role in defending the Jets, how that translates to the Seahawks’ blueprint, and gave my general thoughts on the trade. Jamal Adams is a fantastic player, but the question we have to answer is whether his game will raise defense enough to overcome the lack of future draft capital.
