José Mourinho may have tarnished his Chelsea legacy a bit from the events (and words) of the past five years, he first joined Manchester United and then took over Tottenham Hotspur, but today he did a big favor for the Blues.
The Spurs’ 3-0 win over Leicester City means Chelsea only needs to win one of our last two remaining games to secure at least fourth place and Champions League football next season: unofficial minimum expectations. and unofficial but well understood for Chelsea. season, Youth Revolution ™ and the transfer ban aside.
That does not mean that Chelsea is already home free. Our last two games are Liverpool away on Wednesday and then Wolverhampton Wanderers at home on Sunday. Liverpool may not have anything to play for, but they surely want their coronation as champions not to come in the midst of defeat. And the wolves are still in the battle for the sixth and last European place. They are two points behind the Spurs with a game in hand after today’s results.
Chelsea was in control of our own destiny even before today, but now we also have a little leeway. Thanks Jose!
