Motorola’s Unlocked Edge Gets $ 700, Slight Increase in Specs

Motorola has announced that the regular Edge, the cheapest sibling of its recently launched Edge Plus, will cost $ 699.99, putting it at $ 300 less than the $ 999.99 Edge Plus. However, there is no release date yet, outside of the previously announced “summer” window.

Motorola has also announced that it will increase the specifications of the standard Edge a bit. Instead of the originally planned 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, the Edge will now offer 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

The Motorola Edge features a similar design to the Edge Plus, including the 6.7-inch eponymous “edge” display, but achieves that cheaper price by lowering some of the specs. The Snapdragon 865 on the Edge Plus is replaced by a slightly slower Snapdragon 765; the battery drops from 5,000mAh to 4,500; there is no wireless charging; And Edge Plus still wins with 12GB of RAM.

Also, the triple camera array has reduced specs: 64-megapixel main lens (instead of the 108-megapixel sensor on the Edge Plus) and only 2x optical zoom and no OIS for the 8-megapixel sensor megapixel, though the 16 megapixels Ultra wide sensor and flight time are the same.

5G support is more limited on Edge: it lacks the mmWave support that Edge Plus has, only support less than 6GHz, and more open. This is because, unlike Edge Plus, Edge will be sold unlocked, rather than locked to Verizon (and its network only mmWave).
