More than 300,000 used condoms packed for resale in police raid in Vietnam

According to the Associated Press, local media reported on Thursday that Vietnamese police said they found about 320,000 recycled useful condoms, which were recovered as new.

Market inspectors in Binh Duong Province raided a factory near Ho Chi Minh City, where they discovered that condoms used to sell in the market had been reintroduced. An inspector said the factory-old owner, a woman, confessed that she had bought condoms from someone else, the state-owned Tuoi Tre newspaper reported.

After buying condoms from a man, they were washed and reshaped, then packed in plastic bags, according to the newspaper.

The video, taken by Vietnam’s state broadcaster VTV and obtained by Reuters news agency, shows bags full of condoms. It also shows the tools apparently used to wash and reshape condoms in the factory.

VTV said it was not clear how many used condoms had already been resold, according to Reuters.

“There is an extreme health risk for condom users,” the health official was quoted as saying by the Tuai Tre newspaper.
