DOUGLASVILLE, GA – Citing “evidence of increased transmission” of COVID-19, Cobb & Douglas Public Health issued an alert the Wednesday before the weekend of July 4.
“There is evidence of increased transmission across our community, outside of access to additional testing, as supported by positivity rates at our test sites that have exceeded 10 percent,” Cobb & health director said on Wednesday. Douglas, Janet Memark, in a statement “This trend has been on an upward trajectory in recent weeks.”
Memark also noted that more than 300 companies in Cobb and Douglas counties had been “directly affected” by COVID-19 in recent weeks. Seventy-five outbreaks in companies are currently being investigated.
On the positive side, Memark noted a decrease in the death rate among people with COVID-19. She said she believed it was because more young and healthy people were infected, as well as experience gained by health professionals treating the virus.
The statement “strongly urged” those who are medically fragile or elderly to take refuge in the place as much as possible until at least July 15.
Furthermore, everyone should:
- Wash your hands frequently or use hand sanitizer
- Stand 6 feet away from others when you are away from home
- Wear cloth masks when social distancing is not possible
- Stay home when you are sick
- Frequently continue disinfecting homes and businesses
- Avoid large gatherings of more than 50 people.
