Mophie and InvisibleShield are making UV disinfectants for your phone

The InvisibleShield UV Sanitizer uses UV-C bulbs to disinfect any smartphone up to 6.9 inches. The disinfection cycle also lasts about five minutes and is said to kill 99.9 percent of common surface bacteria. This device does not have the phone charging capacity of the Mophie UV disinfectant.

Both devices only require the user to place a phone inside and press a button to start disinfecting. Mophie UV Sanitizer is currently available at Mophie.com and Verizon stores for $ 79.99. The InvisibleShield device will soon be selling on the InvisibleShield website and at “Top Retailers” for $ 59.99.

It is unclear how effective UV disinfectants are against coronavirus specifically. However, Zagg says the products were third-party tested and found to be effective against E. coli and staphylococci.

Dr. Kelly A. Reynolds, associate professor at the University of Arizona School of Public Health, previously told Engadget: “UV-C light is effective against a wide range of germs and provides an option to disinfect your phone. without the use of chemicals. “UV disinfectants do not appear to be more effective at disinfecting than disinfecting wipes, but the devices may be a good option for those who do not want their phone to be damaged by washing or harsh chemicals .
