Montana state health officials on Monday reported a new record number of COVID-19 cases in a single day at 56, overshadowing the previous record of 35.
Yellowstone County had the highest number of new cases on Monday at 14, followed by Gallatin County with 13, according to the Montana Response tracking map COVID-19.
Glacier County reported nine new cases, Flathead County has six new cases, and Ravalli County added four new cases.
Custer and Richland counties each reported two new cases, and one new case was reported in each of Big Horn, Cascade, Granite, Lincoln, Stillwater and Valley counties.
The record high for a single previous day was reported on June 24 at 37, but state officials then adjusted the number to 35. There were also 35 new cases on March 26.

The total number of cumulative cases in Montana now stands at 919, according to state health officials. MTN reports one less total case and one less case recovered due to a case in Jefferson County that local health authorities reported involved an out-of-state patient.
There is also a discrepancy between Missoula and state health officials. County health officials report 73 total cases with 29 assets. The state reports 66 total cases with 24 assets. MTN reports the numbers provided by county health officials.
The number of recoveries is now 609, and the state has 13 people currently hospitalized with the virus. There were 6,479 new tests during the previous 24-hour reporting period for a total statewide number of tests of 88,743. The death toll remains at 22.
There are now 288 active COVID-19 cases in the state, according to state health officials. Yellowstone and Gallatin counties each have 55 active cases. Big Horn County now has 32 active cases and Missoula County has 24 active cases. Flathead County has 16 active cases, while Glacier County has 12 and Cascade County has 11 active cases. Custer and Ravalli counties each have 10 active cases.
