The results of the COVID-19 test have not had an acceptable rate for several major league teams at the beginning of the summer camp. The slow process has negatively affected the A’s, Angels, Astros and Nationals, although MLB expressed confidence Monday that it will not be a problem in the future.
For its part, the MLBPA sent out a memo to the player agents on Monday saying that he and the league are “Actively seek an additional medical laboratory site to increase the speed and efficiency of test processing and reporting” Ken Rosenthal from The Athletic tweets.
It is a common sense move to work to speed up the process of receiving test results, considering that the season is supposed to start in less than three weeks and players are expected to test every day. A player who tests positive for the coronavirus must quarantine for two weeks, and must test negative twice and show no symptoms before she can join her team. With just 60 games scheduled for each club this regular season, it’s even more crucial for everyone involved to know the test results as quickly as possible.
