MLB expected the Cardinals’ game to be postponed Friday

The St. Louis Cardinals will need one more day before they are ready to take the field. MLB is expected to postpone the Cardinals ‘game Friday, sources told Yahoo Sports’ Tim Brown. The team is expected to play back on Saturday with a doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox.

The Cardinals have not played since July 29 due to an outbreak of coronavirus. At least 16 members of the Cardinals’ organization have tested positive for coronavirus. The team has only played 5 games this season.

While it looked to those who would play the Cardinals back on August 7, the team revealed more positive tests. MLB decided to put the team’s series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The league also put out a doubleheader between the Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers that was scheduled for Thursday.

The Cardinals were initially expected to open the series with the White Sox on Friday, but it appears that will wait until Saturday.

Why was Friday’s Cardinals game postponed?

The Cardinals’ coronavirus tests have been “encouraging” over the past few days, according to Derrick Goold of St. Louis. Louis Post Dispatch. Friday’s postponement is more to allow the team into an extra training session, as it has not played a game since July.

However, Buster Olney of ESPN reports that another employee has tested positive for coronavirus.

Despite that, the team is still working to get back on the field. Olney mentions that players can rent rental cars to Chicago to play against the White Sox.

With all the postponements, the Cardinals now have to make 55 games over the next 40 or so days. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said it was possible for the team to play a “credible” number of games, but that going to 60 would be difficult.
