Miss Alabama Tiara Pennington announced that she and her mother tested positive for coronavirus.

Pennington made the announcement on Miss Alabama’s social media channels, adding that she and her mother began displaying COVID symptoms, were tested, and are currently in quarantine.

“This virus is extremely contagious because even with my family practicing all the guidelines recommended by the (Centers for Disease Control), my mother and I continue to contract the virus,” Pennington wrote. “Please tell the house if you can, and if you can’t, wear a mask and wash your hands. This virus is dangerous, scary, real and unknown. “

Pennington was named Miss Alabama 2019, but her reign spanned the year after the pageant was canceled due to the coronavirus. Miss Alabama 2021 will take place June 9-12, 2021.
