Minnesota woman, 18, drowned after pulling children out of rainy lake

An 18-year-old woman drowned in a northwestern lake after rescuing several children from turbulent water, authorities said.

A group of children had been swimming in a river near a dam on Clearwater Lake in Sinclair Township on Monday when some of them were caught in sucking water that came over the dam, witnesses told Clearwater County sheriff’s deputies.

The water level at the dam was high due to a large amount of recent rain, officials said.

When the first substitute arrived, an 8-year-old girl had been pulled out of the water and was initially unresponsive. Circumstances made life-saving measures and were able to resist them, KSFY-TV reported.

Circumstances also attempted to revive the woman before paramedics arrived, but she did not respond. Witnesses told deputies that the woman pulled several children out of the water before she went under.
