The Minecraft Nether update is available today. In addition to these four achievements, the update also adds achievement rewards, where you will get costume items to complete achievements. There are also new biomes, new mobs and new blocks, as well as new Netherite material and a new themed adventure. The four new biomes include the Warped and Crimson Forests, Soulsand Valley, and Basalt Deltas, with Nether Biome Fog helping to mix the biomes. There are three new mobs: the Piglins, gold-obsessed creatures found in the Crimson Forests and the Nether Debris, Hoglins, which can be hunted in the Crimson Forests, and Striders, who appear to be one of the only non-hostile creatures in the Nether, and that you can saddle up to walk around the Nether. There are also zombified variants of Piglins and Hoglins.
New features in the game include the ruined portals, which Mojang says are “remains of the old Nether portals”, remains of bastions, Blackstone, a respawn anchor to help with the many inevitable deaths in the Nether and Netherite: one material stronger and more durable than diamond. There’s also a target block, a magnet stone to help you find your way, and the Soul Speed enchantment to help you travel through the Soul Arena. Mojang has also added a myriad of new blocks, including Warped Stems, Crimson Nylium, and Shroomlights, along with new music and sounds to complement his exploration of the Nether. Lastly, Mojang has launched an “abyssal-themed adventure”, Way of the Nether, in which “a dimensional rift has appeared in Poppy Isle and the mayor has disappeared.” Your task will be to challenge the Nether and save the mayor.
