The army has identified five American soldiers killed when a Black Hawk helicopter went down during a regular peacekeeping operation in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.
Captain Seth Vernon Wandekamp, 31, of Kate, Texas, was killed in Thursday’s crash. Chief Venture Officer Fisher 3das Las Gerald Garza, 34, Fayetteville, NC; Chief Venture Officer 2 Marwan Sameh Gabhaur, 27, Marlborough, Mass .; Staff Sergeant. Kyle Robert McKee, 35, of Pinesville, Ohio; And S.G.T. Jeremy Ken Sherman, 23, of Veterans.
They were part of an international team that monitors the 1979 Israeli-Egyptian peace agreement.
According to the Military Times, Vandek was a doctor assigned to a medical company.
A French peacekeeper and a Czech officer were also killed, and a sixth American on a helicopter was wounded and taken to an Israeli hospital.
Six Americans were killed, according to initial reports.
There were no signs of an attack and officials said Thursday’s crash was caused by a technical failure.
