Vice President Mike Pence’s upcoming campaign events in Arizona and Florida this week have been postponed as both states report a significant increase in coronavirus cases.

Campaign appearances are postponed “as a precaution,” a Trump campaign official told CNBC.

So far, no new dates have been announced for the vice president’s “Faith in America” tour, aimed at evangelical voters. Pence will continue to travel to Texas, Arizona and Florida this week to meet with governors and health care teams about the coronavirus response efforts.

Coronavirus cases are on the rise across the country, particularly in Arizona, Florida, Texas, and California.

As of Friday, the seven-day average of new cases in the US increased more than 41% compared to last week. The country reported an additional 45,255 cases on Friday, bringing the total to more than 2.46 million cases since the outbreak began, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Covid-19 hospitalizations were growing in 14 states as of Friday, according to data from the Covid Monitoring Project.

Pence at a press conference on Friday bragged that the US smashed the curve, which was true in the previous months, but is no longer the case as the cases hit new records in the US.

The vice president also stated that the increased evidence was generating more cases. However, more evidence alone does not explain the increase in new infections, and rather the spread of the virus is causing an increase in reported cases.

Some states, including Texas and Florida, have reversed reopening plans for some companies, while other states like Arizona have postponed reopening plans.
