When the Ravens released Earl Thomas on Sunday, it did not take long for some to question whether the Cowboys would make a play for the native Texas.

Thomas has over the years shown interest in playing for the Cowboys and the team did a few years ago with trade talks involving Thomas, but word on Sunday afternoon was that there was “nothing at the moment” about security. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy got a chance to tackle the opportunity on Monday.

McCarthy’s response was not much different from what we heard on Sunday. He said “we read the news” and that he discussed Thomas with Vice President of Player Staff Will McClay, but that the team is comfortable with how things are at the moment.

‘We are very confident in that where we are [with] the 80-man roster. . . . I have nothing really to report, ”McCarthy said, via Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.

The Cowboys signed HaHa Clinton-Dix this offseason and have Xavier Woods back in the other safety spot.
