Microsoft has not yet announced any additional updates to its upcoming Surface Duo phone, but fortunately a variety of leaks have continued with keeping the hype surrounding the upcoming foldable device. Following a nonchalant tease of the VP of Android to a recent tipster who claimed we could see the phone on 24 August, rumors continue to swirl about what to expect from the eSurface Duo.
Now a series of real-time renderers has given us some promise to investigate in detail. Leaker Panda (@samsungbloat) took to Twitter with a series of reported official images of the Surface Duo showing various views of the device, as well as a few special accessories that could come along with Microsoft’s foldable.
The photos do not reveal too many new features when it comes to the design of the Surface Duo – now, Microsoft showed us what the device would look like last year. The screens have relatively large edges at the top and sides, although they taper to a much thinner shape at the sides. They are connected via a metal hinge that can be seen in one of the close-up images.
EXCLUSIVE: More official images (thread) of the Microsoft Surface Duo. It is set to start IN soon. Who else is upset? pic.twitter.com/1ZSEwNw33L11 August 2020
In addition, the leaked photos show the stylus intended to come with the Surface Duo. There is also a special bumper case, such as the charger and USB Type-C cable to power the device. A look at the Surface Duo, which is partially closed, is somewhat reminiscent of the Nintendo DSi, as the unit looks quite substantial, even when loaded.
As far as the device’s software can expect, Microsoft has already confirmed that the Surface Duo will be an Android 10 device. You can bet it will borrow heavily on Microsoft’s suite of apps. The expanded image seems to support this, with a brief look at the home page.
I tweeted Panda a potential award for the Surface Duo, claiming it will start at $ 1,400 in the United States. That means it could potentially outperform the Motorola Razr at $ 1,499, but it will be more expensive than the LTE version of the Galaxy Z Flip. Microsoft has not yet commented on possible pricing information just for the Surface Duo, but that may come in the next week or so.
As previously detailed by Microsoft, the Surface Duo has two 5.6-inch AMOLED 1800 x 1350 monitors that combine to help multitasking. The device that was unveiled last year ran on a Snapdragon 855. Leaking specs suggested that the phone features 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. While these stats do not exactly place the Surface Duo within range of smartphones like the Galaxy Note 20 (which is powered by a Snapdragon 865 Plus chip), the upcoming folding device could be its own in terms of smooth navigation between two screens .
These distracted images give us a great look at what may be coming, but as usual we’ll have to wait for Microsoft to offer the final word on what’s around the corner for the Surface Duo. We could be several weeks away from getting our hands on the device, and the Duo and see Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 – that is set for a full reveal on Sept. 1st. – should rather be the interesting show.
