Microsoft shows future user interface of its Office mobile and desktop applications

Microsoft Office is one of the most widely used software suites on the planet. It has been around for a long time and has changed a lot over the years. Microsoft has been slowly revamping the look of its applications and today they are bringing out a new user interface for Office on mobile and desktop devices.

Microsoft’s current design language is called “Smooth Design” and it has made its way to more products over the years. The fluid design for Office includes new app icons, dark mode, and a much simpler and minimal look, though not completely flat. Microsoft is causing some of the upcoming redesigns on multiple images.

Jon Friedman, corporate vice president of design and research at Microsoft, explains the thought process behind design. Talk about how you can move toolbars wherever people find them most useful. This toolbar replaces the classic Office “ribbon” interface. The tape’s user interface has been a constant in office since 2007, so this is a pretty big change.

Some of the changes are more than just superficial, too. There is a search function that works in the suite of Office applications built into each application. These features and the new user interface will be consistent across the desktop and mobile device. However, Microsoft has not mentioned when these changes will arrive in Office applications. When they do, we will be ready.
