Microsoft has released a new version of its Android Remote Desktop client that provides full support for Windows 10 Virtual Desktop.
Remote Desktop, which came out of beta earlier this year, allows users to access Windows apps and desktops directly from an Android device or Chromebook that supports the Google Play Store.
Microsoft has released an update client, version 10.0.7, which brings a number of new features to Remote Desktop for Android, mainly full support for Windows Virtual Desktop.
Remote Desktop
Windows Virtual Desktop allows users to run a virtual machine with the Windows 7 or 10 operating system. During the coronavirus crash Microsoft has seen a significant increase in the use of Windows Virtual Desktop as more professionals have been forced to work remotely in the last three months.
To enhance the Windows Virtual Desktop experience, the Remote Desktop update also brings the integration of Microsoft Authenticator, which means that users can safely log in to the service without using a password.
The Remote Desktop update has also been rewritten to use the same underlying RDP core engine as iOS and macOS clients, support for transferring connections and settings from Remote Desktop 8, and a host of new connection tools, including an interface for Redesigned Progress User and a Login Bar in session.
Finally, Remote Desktop for Android v10.0.7 adds support for Android TV devices for the first time, which means the client supports Nvidia Shield and Xiaomi Mi Box S TVs.
If you don’t already have it, the Microsoft Remote Desktop app can be downloaded for free from Google Play.
