Microsoft Flight Simulator is coming to Steam, will support VR

Microsoft revealed today that its new Flight Simulator will arrive on Steam on August 18 and will be compatible with HP Reverb G2 VR headsets when it launches later in the fall.

“In addition to availability on Windows 10 and Xbox Game Pass for PC, Microsoft Flight Simulator is also coming to Steam on August 18,” writes Microsoft’s Jorg Neumann in the announcement. “We are delighted to announce that Steam pre-orders for the Standard, Deluxe and Premium Deluxe editions of Microsoft Flight Simulator begin today.”

Microsoft Flight Simulator will support the TrackIR head tracking solution “on the first day,” says Microsoft. This will offer “a six degrees of freedom (6DOF) camera control for an ultra-immersive simulator experience,” says the firm. “TrackIR enables simmers to enjoy a low-latency mouse with Microsoft Flight Simulator in full 4K / HDR, while allowing easy interaction with a set of hardware peripherals.”

Microsoft Flight Simulator will also support the HP Reverb G2 VR headsets that were previewed earlier this year and will ship in the fall.

“Created by HP in collaboration with Microsoft and Valve, the upcoming Reverb G2 headphones have a bright, high-resolution display, excellent tracking, and immersive audio to take full advantage of the incredible images in Microsoft Flight Simulator and the fully 3D soundscape,” he says. Neumann. “The HP Reverb G2 will be available later this fall, and the VR update will be a free update for all Microsoft Flight Simulator players.”

You can reserve Microsoft Flight Simulator from the Xbox website.
