Microsoft Family Safety brings parental controls for Android and iOS


Microsoft has released a new application called Family Safety, which offers parental controls between devices for Android, iOS, Windows and Xbox.

After being in beta testing for a few months, this week Microsoft, through The edge, officially launched its new parental control and family management application, Family Safety. Traditional parental controls take center stage in the Android and iOS app, allowing parents and guardians to filter out what their child is and can’t see and do on their devices.

The Family Safety web filter can protect the Microsoft Edge browser on Windows, Android and even Xbox. Similarly, the app can set time limits for both individual devices and apps, syncing between devices. That means games that are available on both Xbox and Android, like Fortnite, share the same time limit. Children, of course, can request extensions on their screen time.

On the safety side, Family Safety lets you see where your family members are, and the app can even tell when two or more family members are in the same place.

The edge It also notes that Microsoft Family Safety has more features on the way that will be exclusive to Office 365 subscribers. One of these features allows you to receive notifications when family members leave or arrive at a particular destination. Another exclusive for subscribers will focus on making you and your family better drivers through “Driving Behavior Ideas.”
