Microsoft considered splitting Halo Infinite into several pieces before delaying it

The decision to delay Halo Infinite was Microsoft’s last resort.

Although the recent Halo infinite show may not have generated the best reactions, the news of the game’s delay in 2021 was shocking to say the least.

Not only was Infinite the only new first-party game confirmed for the launch of the Xbox Series X, it was also a long-in-development project whose fans did not think they could spend any longer in development. But, Microsoft finally decided to back the game’s release next year, and according to Phil Spencer, it was not a decision that took light.

“Let me start by just acknowledging the fans and the fact that this is a bummer,” Spencer said of the latest episode of Gary Whitta’s Animal Talking show, as reported by Stevivor.

“It’s disappointing people, it’s disappointing us. We were looking forward to the launch of Halo Infinite and the Xbox Series X. ”

Interestingly, Spencer, along with studio leadership, considered dividing the game into separate parts that would each ship separately on different dates, but ultimately did not go to the option after 24 hours of consultation.

“It just did not feel like it for all of us, like the Halo release we want,” he said.

“I will apologize to the fans because I will never like to set expectations and then not beat them, but I also believe we will make the right decision, in the long run, for both Xbox and Halo and our customers.” he added.

Spencer also reiterated that the delay of Halo Infinite does not affect the objective of Xbox Series X. Indeed, Microsoft confirmed that the console will launch this November on the same day that it announced the delay of Infinite.

When it’s released, Halo Infinite’s multiplayer will be free to play and run at 120fps on Series X.
