ANN Arbor, Mitch. – The University of Michigan Athletic Department announced Tuesday (December 15) that the football program is canceling its game in Iowa on Saturday (December 19) as part of the Big Ten Champions Week. The decision was made after discussions with medical experts, health consultants and the university administration.
“According to the Big Ten COVID-19 medical policies and health guidelines, we’re without a significant number of players for this week’s game.” Verde Manual, Shepherd Director of Athletics, Donald R. “A couple who are with general frustration due to injury, and we don’t have enough players available to land a team in Iowa in many position groups. We have more student-athletes this week than last week and the week before.
“The number of positive tests in the last three weeks, which requires a 21-day availability period, and the contact requirements associated with that number have pushed our current list of unrelated student-athletes to more than 50. This is a very unfortunate situation, and we are disappointed. We know that our program will not be able to complete the season against our keys.
“I’m very proud of the way my players worked to get back on the field, but the numbers just don’t support us getting on the field on Saturday. It’s been very challenging and difficult for everyone, and we want to make sure that We are doing what is right for our student-athletes at every step of the way, and ultimately ensuring their health, safety and well-being. “
