Michelle Obama asks Americans to “vote for Joe Biden as our lives depend on it”

Former First Lady Michelle Obama delivered an unfavorable speech on the first night of the Democratic National Convention, urging Americans who may have kicked off the 2016 election to support Joe Biden in November. In her pre-recorded address, she spoke honestly about the challenges she faces in getting the country, and the sheer responsibilities a president has.

“I am one of the handful of people alive today who have seen the immense weight and incredible power of the presidency in the first place,” Obama said. “You just can not falsify your way through this job.”

Obama, who wore a necklace with “VOTE”, said the decision by many not to vote in 2016 “sent one to the Oval Office that lost national international law by nearly 3 million votes.”

The former first lady said the Trump presidency has undermined the performance of her husband’s office, and she also accused Mr Trump of a lack of empathy.

“Here at home, if George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and a never ending list of innocent people of color remain murdered. “Explaining the simple fact that a Black life matters is still ridiculed by the nation’s highest office,” Obama said. Unfortunately, this is the America that is to be seen for the next generation. “

Obama also referred to the catchphrase she mentioned in her speech at the 2016 Democratic convention, when she said, “If they go low, we go high.”

“In the last four years, a lot of people have asked me, ‘If others go so low, does it really work that high?'” Obama said. “My answer: going high is the only thing that works.”

Without appointing the president, Obama offered her assessment that Mr. Trump “cannot meet this moment.”

“He’s clear in his head. It’s what it is,” she said, wavering Mr Trump’s own remark in an Axios interview a few weeks ago, when challenged about the fact that 1,000 Americans die every day as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“If you think things can not get any worse, trust me, they can; and they will if we do not make a change in this election. If we hope to end this chaos, we must vote for Joe Biden like us. life depends on it, ‘Obama said.

She also spoke about her relationship with Biden, and touching on his resilience in the face of personal tragedy: “His life is a testament to the rise of the new.”

“I know Joe. He’s a deeply decent man, accompanied by faith,” Obama said. “He was a great vice president. He knows what it costs to save an economy, repel a pandemic and lead our country.”

She urges people to be enthusiastic about running in the upcoming elections and turn in levels that sent her husband to the White House in 2008 and 2012.

“We need to pack our comfortable shoes, wear our masks, pack a brown bag dinner and maybe even breakfast, because we have to be ready all night to stand in line when we have to,” Obama said. “It is up to us to add our voices and our voice to the chorus of history.”

Obama did not refer Kamala Harris, Biden’s running mate, because her speech was recorded before Harris was announced.

Obama ended his speech by reiterating the importance of empathy and making a good impression on the children of the country.

“We want to be able to look our children in the eye after these elections,” she said. “We need to reassert our place in American history. And we need to do everything we can to elect my friend Joe Biden as the next President of the United States.”
