Miami Dolphins WR Preston Williams walks to injured reserve with leg injury

Davy, Fla. – Miami Dolphins receiver Preston Williams will be kept on the reserve injured by a leg injury, Brian Flores said Wednesday.

“We did run some tests. It’s a little more significant than initially thought,” Flores said. “That’s a big loss. Priest has done a lot of plays for us in the first half of the season.”

Flores did not want to speculate about the length of Williams’ expected absence, but he will miss at least three games with the injury after more tests confirm a more serious injury.

Williams suffered a foot injury after being hit by a defensive back on his touchdown catch in Sunday’s win over the Arizona Cardinals.

In Williams’ absence, Jackie Grant is a potential candidate to move forward in the starting lineup. Pte receiver Mac Hollins will also see an increased role, and he got a touchdown from Tua Tagoviloa in place of Williams on Sunday. Rookie receivers Lynn Bowden Jr., Malcolm Perry and Kirk Merritt will also look for more opportunities to stay active on the day of the game and contribute after Williams’ injury.

The Dolphins practice team can also promote Antonio Calaway to the active roster. Kave Leve was removed from the suspension list after being given a 14-game suspension for multiple violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy, and this week he was named as one of the team’s four Defense Practice Squad players.

Flores also noted that the team could move to a more two-tight end set without Williams, who has 288 yards and 18 catches for four touchdowns this season.
