Miami Beach bans short-term rentals due to coronavirus numbers

MIAMI BEACH, Florida. – If you have a short-term rental in Miami Beach, the city has a message for you: it’s canceled.

Miami Beach announced that, as of 12:01 am Thursday, short-term rentals at the tourist hotspot are prohibited.

“Short-term and vacation rentals will cancel all existing reservations and refrain from accepting new guests or making new reservations, until the Order expires or is otherwise modified,” the city said in a press release.

The complete and updated Miami Beach emergency order can be viewed here.

The decision comes amid increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases in South Florida.

Leaders in Miami-Dade, the county most affected by the new coronavirus, have looked at several ways to avoid large gatherings that they say are helping the virus spread through the community.

Those measures include last week’s county-wide order prohibiting eating at indoor restaurants.
