Metal Gear Solid 5 finally accomplished complete nuclear disarmament and activated its secret post-nuclear scene. Well, only on PS3, but it still counts.
According to the Reddit user LoneQuackers, the scene was activated on July 27, 2020 and included a YouTube video That shows the scene apparently running on the PS3 hardware. You may have a sense of deja vu, because the scene from the PC version of Metal Gear Solid 5 has been on the loose for years. That was due to a server failure (which ironically may have been caused over there being too many nuclear weapons), not the planned full nuclear disarmament.
It now appears that the PS3 gaming community for Metal Gear Solid 5 has finally accomplished the feat by legitimate means, both disarming their own nuclear weapons and stealing and disarming the nuclear weapons of their most warrior (or inactive) colleagues. According to this fanmade web application “MGS5 Nuke Watcher”The period of complete disarmament did not last long: there are currently 43 nuclear weapons reported on the platform. The PC version has almost 20,000. But it is worth celebrating the fact that it ever happened, anywhere and even briefly.
Original series creator Hideo Kojima retweeted a news story about the disarmament event of your official accountAlthough given his distance from Konami these days, that may be all we hear from him about it. Still, it must be gratifying to know that after decades of sowing their antinuclear and pacifist-themed games, one of their gamer communities briefly achieved true post-nuclear peace. No deterrence motivated by fear, peace.
Kojima is working on a new project, and it seems that it could also be established in the Stranded death universe.
