Metacritic, the popular review aggregation website, has decided to delay user reviews of new games until 36 hours after they have been launched in defense against the “review blitz”. “We recently implemented the 36-hour waiting period for all user reviews in our games section to ensure that our players have time to play these games before writing their reviews,” a Metacritic spokesperson said in a statement to GameSpot. . “This new waiting period for user reviews has been implemented in the Games section of Metacritic and was based on research based on data and with input from critics and industry experts.”

Metacritic stated that the decision was not directly related to any particular game, but was a move in the fight to prevent these “review bombers” from lowering the overall user score of a game as soon as it was released.

In addition to user review issues, online harassment and death threats were also directed at Laura Bailey from The Last of Us Part 2 and director Neil Druckmann.
