Messi’s contract excludes FIFA and UEFA from legal conflict

Both UEFA and FIFA legal directors are aware that if there is a difference between FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi then this should be resolved through a Spanish court and both governing bodies would be exempted from interfering in the emerging legal conflict between the two sides. None of the footballers like the Spanish buy-out clause system because they feel it is at odds with the desired effect of players respecting the length of signed deals between football clubs and their players.

Neymar case

When Neymar moved to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017, the Brazilian had to pay the 220 million euros that were in his contract as a release clause and then the striker moved to the giants of Ligue 1 without a contract buoys. The striker later took the Catalan club to court, but the case lasted three years of legal wrangling over a dispute over renewal and loyalty bonuses and in the meantime he was free to play with the Paris side while the case unfolded. The legal action was finally resolved in June of this year with a Catalan court on the side of the football club and ordered the Brazilian star to pay 6.7 million when Barcelona won the verdict.

Both FIFA and UEFA advocate for the right of footballers to perform their duties and play the game and be aware that the 33-year-old Messi has a release clause of 700 million euros bound by his deal with the club. Both governing bodies would avoid any embargo or ban on him, while the case goes through countless and time-consuming legal proceedings.

Many felt that Messi’s legal team had expected all the problems that FC Barcelona would present and felt that the Argentine would be free to negotiate with prospective bidders. (The City of Manchester) with FIFA set up to process the transfer should a mutual agreement be secured with the player and the Premier League outfit. In the meantime Barcelona appear set for a legal battle that will likely end by the time the Argentine striker decides to call time on his playing days with all this points to in a new country, a new league and a new club shirt.
