Messages in favor of immigrants could move undecided voters in changing states

The poll included 800 potential voters, including 600 persuasive voters, those who do not support likely Democratic candidate Biden or Trump, in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The group outperformed likely black and Latino voters to study them more closely.

Because the survey was conducted online with respondents who chose to participate, there is no margin for sampling error.

The NILC Immigrant Justice Fund plans to launch a campaign for the first time in a presidential election year. The campaign will target undecided voters on immigration policy and will include digital advertisements in selected states. It is expected to launch in mid-August. The group aims to spend up to $ 3 million on the effort.

“Democrats are afraid to lean” on immigration policy during the elections, said Marielena Hincapié, executive director of the Immigrant Justice Fund. “In fact, they have no choice with Trump.”

Trump is “scapegoating immigrants to distract themselves from their leadership and their failures in the past four years,” Hincapié continued. “We realized that we really needed to step up our own participation in the political and electoral process and go beyond politics and legal advocacy.”

Trump recently took a step to remove undocumented immigrants from the census. Trump also sought to reduce foreign workers in the country and said his administration will again try to end popular protections for immigrants who illegally arrived in the country as children, known as Dreamers.

According to the survey, messages in favor of immigrants that focus on uniting the country and the economy were the most effective. And immigrant doctors and nurses were the strongest messengers, followed by teachers and dreamers, according to a memo from ALG Research, which conducted the survey and worked for Biden during the 2020 race.

Biden has expanded his reach to Latinos in key states like Arizona and Florida in recent weeks, hiring a Latino polling company and launching television commercials. Biden did not appeal to Hispanics during elementary school.

Biden leads Trump in Arizona by 4 points and in Florida by 5 points, according to a recent CNN poll.
