Back then Frank Gore has seen a lot of footballers over the years, but one of his new teammates with the Jets still stands out.
First-round pick Mekhi Becton is named at 6’7 ″ and 363 pounds, making him nearly a foot taller and 150 pounds heavier than the veteran tailback. Gore said Becton is “different” after seeing him in the team’s first refurbished practice and defending members of the defense as well.
Linebacker Blake Cashman said the first thing he noticed was the size of Becton and that the rookie continued in other ways.
“I had to take him one by one, and let’s just say it did not go so well for me,” Cashman said, via Brian Costello of the New York Post. ‘Today in practice, first day in pads, he made himself known and what he is capable of doing. He is a great player, one who will play a long time in this league. He has so much more potential to grow. ”
Adam Gase, head coach of the Jets, said it’s rare to see a Becton player’s size of the way he does and said Becton “must have studied this summer to get here and execute the way which he carries out “in practice. For a team that has been struggling on the offensive line all of last year, Becton’s early efforts offer encouraging signs that things could get better this time around.
