In new court documents about Meghan Markle’s ongoing lawsuit against Associated Newspapers, whom she is suing for privacy violation and copyright violation, the Duchess of Sussex’s lawyers said the Royal Family “banned [her] of defending “against an avalanche of” fake and damaging articles from the UK tabloid media. “The relentless media harassment Meghan faced resulted in” tremendous emotional distress and damage to her mental health, “her lawyers said.
According to the BBC, the court documents comprise the responses of Meghan’s legal team to questions from the associated newspapers. Asked about the interviews that five of her friends gave to Persons Last year, his lawyers replied: “The Claimant had become the subject of a large number of false and damaging articles from the UK tabloid media, specifically the Defendant, which caused great emotional distress and damage to her mental health. ”
“Since her friends had never seen her in this state before, they were justly concerned about her well-being, specifically because she was pregnant, unprotected by the institution and prohibited from defending herself,” they continued.
Speaking to ELLE.com, an unidentified source close to the Sussex said that “the Post’s defense depends largely on the falsehood that the Duchess authorized or arranged for her friends to tell Persons magazine about her letter to her father. They argue that because he allowed his friends to discuss the letter, he gave up his privacy rights. In our answer, we set out in absolute detail to demonstrate how this is categorically false. ”
The Associated Newspapers has denied Meghan’s allegations and said she will defend herself against her lawsuit, while the Duchess has vowed to donate damages awarded to anti-bullying charities.
