The Duchess of Sussex wants everyone to hear her vote in this year’s US election.
On Thursday, Meghan Markle took part in the virtual When All Women Vote #CouchParty to celebrate 100 years since the 19th Amendment allowed women the right to vote in the US
When We All Vote is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that’s on a mission to increase turnout in every election and to close the gap and age gap by changing the culture of voting, the energy of the feet utilized, and through strategic partnerships to reach every American. “
The organization was launched in 2018 by co-chairs Michelle Obama, Tom Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Janelle Monae, Chris Paul, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw.

The former American actress, who was identified by her first name and her royal title, did not support any specific candidate or party during the event. However, she stressed the importance of the “change” she hopes to see in November.
“Glad to be here for my friend Michelle Obama’s When We All Vote and to showcase the When We All Women Vote #CouchParty,” the 39-year-old shared.
“If I were to think about voting and why this is so extremely important to all of us, I would have the framework as, we vote to honor those who came before us, and to protect those who will come to us, “said Markle. ‘Because that’s what community is all about. And that is specifically what this election is all about. ”
“I think we are only 75 days away from election day,” she continued. “It’s so close, and yet there is so much work to be done at that time. We all know what’s on the point this year. I know it. And you all know for sure when you are here with this fun event, you are all just so mobilized and just as energized to see the change we all need and deserve. “

The former “Suits” star also pointed out that voter oppression tactics prevented women of color from enjoying the same rights as their white peers.
“This week we recognize the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which of course gave women the right to vote, but not all women,” she explained. ‘And specifically not women of color. When we look at things today, even though it took decades for women to get the right to vote, even today we see so many women in various communities who are marginalized still struggling to earn that right. It’s just not OK. ”
Markle shared that it is now more important than ever for women everywhere to get involved in the current election season.
“This fight is worth fighting for, and we all need to mobilize outside,” she said. “Right now, if we are not part of the solution, we are part of the problem. If you are self-employed, you are employees. We can make a difference in these elections. And we will make a difference in this election. ”
Markle recently told Marie Claire that she will vote in this year’s US presidential election.

“I know what it’s like to have a voice, and also what it’s like to feel voiceless,” she told the outlet. ‘I also know that so many men and women put their lives on the line to be heard. And that opportunity, that fundamental right, lies in our ability to exercise our right to vote and to hear all our voices. ”
“One of my favorite quotes, and one that my husband and I have often referred to, is from Kate Sheppard, a leader in the suffragist movement in New Zealand, who said, ‘Do not think that your single voice does not make much. “Rain that refreshes the decayed ground consists of a few drops,” Markle said. “That’s why I agree.”
Just last week, on the virtual summit “The Representates”, Markle revealed that her husband, Prince Harry, has remained politically neutral – including not voting in elections – his entire life as a member of the British royal family.
“When I have these conversations about encouraging people to go out and vote, I think it’s often challenging for men and women and certainly for people to remember how hard it was to get the right to vote,” Markle said. “And to be really aware and not take that as applicable. My husband for example – he has never been able to vote.”

“I really hope what you can encourage and what we can see happening in the coming months through the 19th is that women understand that their voices are needed now more than ever – and the best way to exercise that is by voting, ”she added.
In January of this year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they were taking a step back as senior members of the royal family. They currently live in Markle’s native California with their 1-year-old son, Archie.
