Meghan’s legal team named the two daughters of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson and Queen Elizabeth II’s first cousin in documents recently released as part of the Duchess of Sussex’s privacy case in the High Court. As the battle with Mail on Sunday and its publisher Associated Newspapers continues, Meghan’s attorneys singled out Beatrice, Eugenie, and Prince Michael in response to a claim that members of the Royal Family are not working.
Associated newspapers told Meghan in her January presentation that she “is a member of the Royal Family and does not perform paid work.”
Using three non-working royalty members as an example, Meghan’s attorneys responded by saying that this statement was incorrect.
The documents read: “Various members[s] of the royal family “undertake paid work” which includes, for example, Princess Beatrice of York, Princess Eugenie of York, and Prince Michael of Kent. “
The Sussex legal team’s decision to name these royalty members in legal documents has not been well received by royal historian Marlene Koenig.
The royal expert, who runs the blog called Royal Musings, wrote on Twitter after the publication of these documents: “I wish Meghan had not brought Beatrice, Eugenie and Prince Michael to her case.
“They are not working for royalty and they have to earn $.”
In response to another Twitter user who told her that Meghan and Harry had “the right to leave,” she said, “It is a little embarrassing that I brought the Princesses of York and Prince Michael to the case.”

“I should have known that none are working with the Royals.”
A Twitter user agreed with Ms Koenig, and the Royal Universe social media account said: “Totally agree. If she didn’t know that those three are not working for royalty, and Prince Michael is not a member of royalty, I could have asked Harry. “
In a separate tweet, a Twitter user named Duchess Royal wrote: “Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are not working on royalty paid by the public.

“They work and support their privately chosen charities.”
Another social media user with the nickname Mouth of Truth added: “Yes, Meg, they work because they are NOT members of the senior working royalty! Wow!”
Meghan has been a full-time working member of the Royal Family between May 19, 2018 and March 31 of this year, when she and Prince Harry officially resigned as members of royalty.
Being a full-time member of royalty means being supported by the Sovereign Grant while fully dedicated to representing the Queen and to non-profit projects related to sponsorships, charities and other non-profit initiatives.
Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice, and Prince Michael can search for private, profitable businesses and get jobs because they are not royalty members who work full time despite being sponsors to various organizations.
On his website, Prince Michael declares that he does not receive taxpayer funds and says: “Having been raised as a member of the Royal Family, Prince Michael has always felt it his duty to respond in the same way as other members of his family, if asked to help and support a charity or other non-commercial organization.
“Because he does not receive the parliamentary annuity that the other members of the Royal Family receive, Prince Michael runs his own private consulting business, which helps Prince and Princess Michael finance and perform charitable and public duties.”
Princess Beatriz is vice president of partnerships and strategy at Afiniti, a data and software company, while Princess Eugenia is associate art director at a London art gallery called Hauser & Wirth.
Prince Michael and Eugenie became neighbors after York married Jack Brooksbank in October 2018, when the couple moved to Ivy Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace.
Before her marriage, Eugenia had lived in an apartment at the Palace of St. James with her sister Beatrice, who was believed to have been paid by Prince Andrew.
