McLaren P1 vs. Porsche Taycan Turbo S: Drag Race Video

Despite its layout at the rear station, the McLaren P1 is almost straight in a straight line. It is one of the original hybrid hypercars, packing in fact 903 horsepower from its twin-turbo V-8 and combo of electric motor. The 0-60 sprint happens in a surprising 2.8 seconds, and top speed is 217 mph. But is it fast enough to defeat the current king of drag racing, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S?

While it may not look as exotic, sound wild, or cost as much as the P1, the Taycan is an absolute beast when it comes to straight gear. With the start control activated, the all-electric Porsche sedan delivers 750 horsepower to its two electric motors – one on each axle – allowing a serious traction of the line can be made.

The YouTube channel Lovecars put together a drag race between a new Taycan Turbo S and one of the first P1 prototypes built – the same example we rode back in 2017. Not surprisingly, the Taycan is capable of the leap from the line, and maintains a strong lead until the end of the race, when the top end of the P1 finally comes into play, giving it the win. It’s very wild to see how similar these cars are, considering the P1 is now eight years old, and many times rarer and more expensive. For now, however, it still reigns supreme.
