First Chamber Tim Tim, RS.C., and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, D-Calif., On Sunday outlined the party’s plans for the upcoming Republican National Convention – claiming the event will be about “celebrating America “and will not be” cynical “like last week’s Democratic National Convention.
“We’ll celebrate America,” McCarthy said in an interview with Fox News on Sunday Morning Futures. ” The difference is [the RNC is] not be cynical, like the Democrats; we are excited about our convention. ”
McCarthy continued: “We know that America is exceptional and we will have people on the stage who understand the exception of America, that America is one nation under God, understand that everyone, that this nation is remembered in freedom and wide, that everyone is equal. “
Much like the DNC, however, the GOP convention will also be a very virtual affair, as the country is still struggling to get a grip on the coronavirus pandemic that has killed more than 176,000 Americans and more than 5.6 million sick.
THE 2020 REPUBLICAN National Convention: WETT WITT
The public health crisis threw the RNC – originally scheduled to take place in Charlotte, NC – into flux earlier this year after the Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper decided not to guarantee the RNC a full-fledged convention with an arena full of party officials, delegates and activists as desired by Trump because of fears of the coronavirus.
The RNC chose Jacksonville in June to host large parts of the convention, after leaving Charlotte for the most part, but President Trump announced in July that he would host parts of the convention that would take place in Florida. , cancel.
Unlike the DNC, there will be some more events in person this week in Charlotte, with presidential woman Ronna McDaniel saying she will not pose any risks to public health.
“We tested everyone before they came to Charlotte, we tested everyone on the spot,” McDaniel said on CBS ‘”Face the Nation.” “We do things that allow people to live their lives, have a convention and do it in a healthy and safe way, which most Americans do.”
