Mayor of Austin: Trump’s “ambiguous” messages “piss me off”

Austin Mayor Steve Adler (D) said Sunday President TrumpDonald John Trump protesters tear down the Christopher Columbus statue on Baltimore Independence Day star Bill Pullman, urging Americans to wear a “mask of freedom” on July 4.The “ambiguous” message from the coronavirus pandemic “makes me angry.”

During a CNN “State of the Union” appearance, Adler focused on Trump’s recent comments that the coronavirus would eventually “go away” and “99 percent of [cases] they are totally harmless. “

“It makes me mad,” said the mayor. “You know, I understand that he has a difficult job, but it’s dangerous not to send a clear message to the Americans.”

“When they start hearing that kind of ambiguous message coming out of Washington, there are more and more people who don’t wear masks, who don’t go the social distance, who won’t do whatever it takes to keep a community safe.” added.

Adler also said he has “to wait for people to listen” to the recommendations of health experts. He predicted that if his city does not “change course,” hospitals are “within two weeks” of being invaded and intensive care units “could be within 10 days of that.”

Texas is one of several states experiencing jumps in coronavirus cases, with the state breaking records for the daily number of new cases twice in the past week. Other states, such as California, Florida and Arizona, are also contributing to the country’s momentum in cases.

Austin has confirmed 11,131 cases in the city, leading to 136 deaths, according to the city board.
