Maukura, the only white kiwi bird born in captivity, has died in New Zealand

A statement from the Paha National Wildlife Center, 78 miles (1,125 km) from the national capital, Wellington, said that a Kiwi named Namukura Manukura died in Mukuri on Sunday.

The northern island brown kiwino entered Pakaha in May 2011, with a rare genetic trait resulting in white feathers instead of the standard brown.

Manukura was seen as a “blessing” by the local Rangiten O Vairarapa tribe, according to a statement from the Wildlife Center.

It inspired a book by New Zealand’s most famous children’s literature writer, Joy Cowley, as well as a line of soft toys and other memorabilia.

“Over the last 10 years, she has been able to make people happy and quietly draw attention to the plight of the Kiwis in her own quiet wilderness,” said Kathy Hawkmau, operations manager for the Defense Department Vairarapa, when Mankura was the center manager at Pekha. Hatch. “She’ll be sad.”

After Mankura was taken to specialist veterinarians in early December, his caregivers found he was not eating and was not losing weight, the statement said.

Watts found an unfertilized egg that was unable to lay a kiwi. Although her operation to remove it was successful, she needed further surgery, and her health continued to decline in the weeks that followed.

“Manukura is very much a part of the Pekaha family and we have always been blessed to help tell the story of Man Oteroa’s defense,” said Emily Court, Paki’s general manager. “It was one of the saddest days.” Experienced wildlife center. Aotiaroa is the Mરીori name of New Zealand.

Although white kiwis exist in the wild, they are considered so rare that it is not very possible to see them in their natural habitat.

According to the New Zealand Department of Defense, there are about 68,000 kiwis left – and 2% of uncontrolled kiwis are lost each year. Threats include predators such as stats, dogs, cats and ferrets.

Manukura is survived by his younger brother Mapuna, who is part of Pekaha’s captive breeding program.
