In addition to popular features like widgets, default default browser selection and picture support in the picture, there are fundamental changes to the home screen function in iOS 14. To help you master iOS 14, we’ve put together a list of key home screen management tips and tricks for the iPhone.
IOS 14 has some major changes to the way the home screen works since the beginning of iOS. If you are new to iOS 14, this guide will help you get up to speed with the fundamentals. But if you have been using iOS 14 in beta since the summer, there are at least one or two new tips or tricks you can learn from this tutorial. Watch the full video for details.
Quickly cycle between home screen pages
Cycling between home screen pages is easily accomplished in iOS 14 by swiping the remaining page indicator points over the dock. This allows you to make quick transitions between home screen pages as quickly as possible.
How to enter jiggle mode
Entering jiggle mode allows you to edit your home screen app icon layout, move apps, add and remove apps, add widgets and more. There are several ways to introduce Jiggle mode in iOS 14:
- Long-press anywhere on the home screen for a few seconds
- Tap and drag any home screen app icon
- Long press on the application icon and select Edit Home screen from the Quick Actions shortcut menu

How to get out of jiggle mode
To exit jiggle mode, do one of the following:
- Tap the Done button in the upper right-hand corner
- Tap any blank area on the home screen
- Swipe from the bottom of the home screen
How to move the application
To move the app, enter jiggle mode, drag and drop the app icon on the home screen for a long time and pull out your finger. Apps will automatically position on the home screen grid. To move apps between pages, slide the app to the edge of the page until the next page appears. You can also long-press the app and use the other finger to cycle between pages.
How to delete an application
To delete an application, enter jiggle mode and tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the application icon. Select the Delete Application option to remove the application completely from your device.
How to view the application library
The app library is a place where all the apps installed on your iPhone reside. These apps are automatically categorized and cannot be rearranged by the user. For example, a recently added category appears in the upper right corner of the application library to show recently installed applications.
You can launch apps directly from the App Library categories by tapping on the big app icons in each category. If the category contains more than four applications, a small group of application icons will appear in the lower-right corner of the category folder. By tapping this group of small icons, you’ll be able to open an expanded view containing all the apps in that category.
How to move the application to the library
To move the app to the library, enter jiggle mode and tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app icon. choose Move to the application library There is an option to remove it from the home screen, but keep it available in the app library.
You can drag the app directly to the app library, which will remove it from the home screen.
How to download apps directly to the app library
To place newly downloaded apps in the app library, visit and select Settings સ્ક Home screen Application library only Below Newly downloaded apps Section.
How to find all the apps installed on your iPhone
Tap the search field at the top of the app library to search for apps. Unlike Spotlight Search, this query is strictly limited to the apps you have installed on your iPhone.
How to show all applications alphabetically
Open the application library and swipe down to reveal the alphabetical list of all currently installed applications.
How to move apps from the app library to the home screen
Long press the app icon and drag it from the app library to move it to your home screen pages. You can enter jiggle mode directly from the app library and easily drag the app to the home screen.
‘X’ vs. ‘-‘ when removing apps
When removing apps or tinging, you’ll see an ‘-‘ or ‘X’ in the upper left corner of the app icon. ‘-‘ represents the ability to delete an application or move an application to a library. ‘-‘ currently only appears on apps displayed on the home screen.
‘X’, on the other hand, appears when trying to remove apps from the application library, as doing so will delete the application from your iPhone.
How to show badges in the application library
By default, application notification badges are hidden in the application library, but you can enable application badges if you wish. To do this, visit the Settings → Home screen and enable it Show in application library Switch under Notification badges Section.
How to edit home screen pages
IOS 14 marks the first time that iPhone users get the ability to hide home screen pages, including all the apps on those pages. Apps on hidden pages can still be found in the app library, but will no longer be on the home screen.
To edit home screen pages, tap the page dot indicator at the top of the dock when your iPhone is in jiggle mode. In the Edit Pages interface, uncheck the pages you want to hide and tap in the upper right-hand corner. Keep in mind that you must have at least one home screen page enabled at a time.
How to perform quick actions on apps
Quick Actions are application-based shortcuts that allow you to launch a specific section of an application, or run a task quickly within an application. To view shortcut shortcuts, long-press the app icon on the home screen until the Quick Actions menu appears.
You can seamlessly slide your finger on the Quick Actions shortcut without removing your finger from your iPhone’s screen. This allows you to use the Quick Actions menu and launch a shortcut in the slot at the same time.
How to share application
To share an application using iOS 14 Share Sheet, long press on the app icon and select Share until the Quick Action Shortcut menu appears.
How to create a folder
Folders are created in iOS by dragging the app icon on top of another app icon until a folder appears. If a folder already exists, you can drag and drop additional application icons into that folder.
How to name a folder
Long press on the folder icon and select Rename folder Quick actions from the shortcut list. You can turn on jiggle mode, open a folder, and tap the ‘x’ button to rename the folder.
How to move multiple apps
To select multiple apps, enter jiggle mode and drag the app icon without freeing your finger from the screen. Using the other finger, tap the second application icon to create a stack. Continue tapping additional icons to add more apps to the stack.
You’ll see a counter in the top right corner of the stack of apps, so you can tell how many apps are in the stack. You can add many app icons to this stack and drag them to different home screen pages. Once you have settled on the target, release your finger and all the icons of the app will be moved at once.
How to move multiple applications to a folder
You can move multiple apps to a folder by dragging a stack of apps to the top of the folder. You can also use multiple apps to create a new folder by dragging a stack of apps on top of another app.
How to move multiple applications in the application library
You can move multiple apps to the app library by dragging the entire stack of apps onto the app library page. The stack of apps will no longer appear on the home screen, but will be installed on your iPhone and accessible through the app library.
Another way to move multiple apps to the app library is by placing the apps inside the folder before removing that folder. Long press on the folder and select the apps you want to remove Remove the folder Quick action shortcut. Tap Remove from home screen The option to remove apps from your home screen appears on the Home page.
How to apply Siri instructions via Spotlight
Siri-suggested apps are dynamic and will vary depending on how you use your iPhone. Swipe down on the home screen to open the spotlight and reveal the apps suggested by Siri. Tap the Disclosure Triangle in the upper right-hand corner of the Siri Instructions interface to reveal four additional applications.
How to use Siri Instructions Widget
Similar to Siri Notifications in Spotlight, you can add Siri-notified apps directly to the home screen via the iOS 14 widget. To access widgets, request jiggle mode and tap the ‘+’ button in the upper left-hand corner of the home screen. Under the Siri Notifications section of the Widgets library, find and tap the Application Notifications widget Add widget At the bottom of the screen to add a widget to the home screen.
How to reset home screen
You can reset your home screen to default by going to Settings → General → Reset and selecting Reset home screen layout.
Resetting the home screen layout will return the stock app icons to their original state. Resetting will reset the dock, folders, and any home screen page edits. If you put any widgets on your home screen, they will also be removed.
All apps removed from the home screen and stored in the app library will be restored and placed in alphabetical order on the home screen.
