A large fire is burning on an industrial site in Grand Prairie, west of Dallas. Firefighters are raising concerns about the burning of chemicals, a nearby carpentry yard that catches fire and downstream.
The fire at the Poly-America facility near President George Bush Turnpike just north of Pioneer Parkway began on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
Flames and smoke could be seen from miles away and explosions could be heard in the distance.
The smoke from the smoke was so great that the National Water Service conquered it on the radar.
‘It’s not something you see every day. And I was relatively close when it went, so it’s just like everything the setting has in store for me right now. Before, it was, oh my gosh what’s going on. Now that I’m here and out of the way, I do not have to be so hyper-careful about my surroundings, ”said Jennifer Borell, who saw the fire when it first started.
According to their website, Poly-America makes plastic film and trash. The company also recycles plastic.
The Grand Prairie Fire Department said the fire was caused by high-voltage lines falling into the plastic inventory.
Several track bikes near the facility that allegedly contain flammable material have already caught fire. The fire also threatened a nearby wood yard and electric towers.
