Massachusetts health officials on Friday reported 18 other deaths from coronavirus, bringing the statewide total to 8,488.

The data show that there were also 97 new probable cases of the virus, for a total of at least 8,438 probable cases.
There are currently 390 people hospitalized with COVID-19.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that since Friday, there have been at least 4,802,491 cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. and 157,631 deaths.
The latest data comes when Gov. Charlie Baker announced on Friday that the state will indefinitely postpone the definition of the second step of Phase 3 after the state investigates “clusters” of coronavirus outbreaks, and copies of parties and other meetings that people do not have. follow the mask mandate.
“In some respects, we are entering a new phase in our fight against COVID-19,” Baker said.
Baker also signed an updated meeting board to reduce the limit on open meetings from 100 to 50 people from Tuesday. The limit on indoor meetings remains at 25 people.
Officials also announced a new enforcement arm, the COVID Enforcement and Intervention Team, which will work in conjunction with local law and other state agencies to ensure residents and businesses comply with COVID-19 mandates.
This new enforcement initiative will include inspections of a variety of agencies, fines and other enforcement actions against non-compliant companies, fines or revocations of liquor licenses for non-compliant restaurants, shutdowns or restrictions for parks, playgrounds, businesses and others locations that are believed to be hotbeds for the virus and other steps.
On Friday, officials announced that the state will expand its free trial program – called ‘Stop the Dissemination’ – through September 12. The initiative has provided free trials for 17 communities with higher positive test rates than the statewide average. They are also communities of color and immigrant populations, typically at a higher risk of infection.
