Mason Ramsey sings until the cows get home after enjoying their organic lemongrass diet in the latest Burger King commercial released today (July 14).
“When cows fart, burp and splash / well, it’s no laughing matter / They release methane every time they do it / And then the methane from their rear rises through the atmosphere / And it pollutes our planet, warming you and me , “Ramsey sings as he steps out of the back of a cow in a white rhinestone suit and ascends into outer space. But no one laughs in their rhinestone gas masks to exemplify the dangers of cow-based greenhouse gas emissions.
The vibrant 13-year-old star talks about the latest fast-food franchise experiment to find a diet to “cut down met-aa-aa-aane, meth-aa-aa-aane,” Ramsey sings in the makeshift chorus, when the cows pass gas. Cowboys and young cowboys in colorful dresses produce the solution with their lemongrass hats that feed mechanical cows and “cut emissions by more than a third” in the two-minute clip.
“Thank you @burgerking for letting me be the voice of all young people who are excited to create a better future. Yeehaw!” Ramsey said hello in her Instagram post today.
In studying the climate impact of beef production, Burger King found that “adding 100 grams of dried lemongrass leaves to the cow’s daily diet” led to a “reduction of up to 33% on average for methane emissions during the period the diet was fed. ” according to the open source formula at Restaurant Brands International.
According to the commercial, the reduced methane emissions beef Whopper sandwiches will be sold at select US restaurants in Los Angeles, Portland, Austin, Miami and New York.
