Maserati today announced a new Trofeo trim level for its Ghibli and Quattroporte sands, packs Ferrari twin-turbo V-8 power and a top speed north of 200 mph. Maserati’s aging four-doors have finally got the engine they always deserved.
The Ghibli Trofeo and Quattroporte Trofeo both get the same Ferrari-built 580-horsepower 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 found in the company’s Levante Trofeo SUV. This is the first time Maserati has had a V-8 fit on the Ghibli, and it is the most powerful engine to date to fit any of the cars. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and a differential with limited slip. Pair is rated at 730 lb-ft, and 0-62 comes in at 4.3 seconds for the Ghibli, and 4.5 seconds for the larger Quattroporte. Top speed for both cars is 202 mph, making them some of the fastest four-door on Earth.
The Trofeo models sport a handful of stylistic touches to distinguish them from your average Ghibli or Quattroporte, including a piano-black grille with two vertical beams, carbon fiber air vents, red-trimmed side air vents, and 21-inch aluminum wheels. Inside you’ll find a 10.1-inch touchscreen for infotainment and “full-grain Pieno Fiore natural leather.” There are also things like launch control, a sporty “Corsa” mode, and an active driving assist system.
Maserati has not yet released price or delivery dates for its new V-8 powered sedans, but we would expect them to arrive sometime next year.
